Rabies Vaccination Requirements

As of Tuesday, April 15, 2003, Harris County Commissioners Court has approved  an amendment to the Harris County Regulations on rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats.  The regulations now state the following:

An animal is considered currently vaccinated if it has either (1) been vaccinated for rabies within the last 12 months; or, (2) received 2 rabies vaccinations within 12 months of each other and the latter of these 2 rabies vaccinations having been with a 3-year vaccine and 3 years have not passed from the date of the latter vaccination.

Note: If the time elapsed since the most recent vaccination has exceeded the label recommendations of the vaccine it is not necessary to repeat the two vaccines within one year sequence for licensed 3-year vaccines.

Harris County is now offering a Triennial License for dogs and cats.

  • Must provide proof that animal is currently vaccinated

  • Cost is $75

  • The license expires when the rabies vaccination expires
