Hurricane Evacuations and Special Health Care Needs: Dial 2-1-1 for a ride Hurricane season begins on June 1ST and continues until November 30th. Local officials may ask people who live in certain hurricane evacuation zones to evacuate if a hurricane looks like it is coming our way. To find out if you live in an evacuation zone you can call the 2-1-1 Special Needs Registry or view the map of the hurricane zones. If you live in the hurricane evacuation zone, you don’t have a ride and you have a disability or special health care need, it is very important for you to call 2-1-1 now to register for a ride. People who live in a nursing home or an assisted living facility don’t need to call 2-1-1. The nursing home and/or assisted living facility will provide rides for their patients. Registering with 2-1-1 is free and voluntary. The 2-1-1 Special Needs Registry will help public safety and transportation agencies know how to reach you to give you a ride if a hurricane evacuation is recommended. Everyone who lives in the hurricane evacuation zone should have an evacuation plan. If you live in the hurricane evacuation zone and you don’t have a ride to evacuate, your plan should include calling 2-1-1 now. You can also dial 2-1-1 if you live in the hurricane evacuation zoneand you: · would not have a ride during an evacuation; or, · think you should register but need to talk to someone to know for sure. Also, please be sure to dial 2-1-1 as soon as possible if your information changes.
