What should I do if I have come into physical contact with a bat?

Try to capture the bat so it can be tested for rabies. (See Bat Safety in Your Home )
Call your health care provider
Report the contact to your local animal control agency (See Houston/Harris County Area Animal Control Agencies)

What should I do if my pet is exposed to a bat?

Remember! Keep vaccinations current for cats, dogs, and other animals

What should I do if an animal has bitten or scratched me and caused me to bleed?

Wash the area with soap and water
Get a tetanus shot if you have not had one in the last 10 years
Go to a health care provider if the bite is severe
Report the bite to your local animal control agency (See Houston/Harris County Area Animal Control Agencies)
