What is
a Flood?
Floods are
the most common and widespread of all natural disasters—except
fire. A flood is defined as an overflowing of water onto land
that is normally dry. Flash floods can take only a few minutes
to a few hours to develop.
Floods can
take several hours to days to develop. A flood watch
means a flood is possible in your area. A flood warning
means flooding is already occurring or will occur soon in your
area.
There are
steps that can be taken before, during, and after a flood to
protect your family and pets and keep your property losses to a
minimum. The guidelines listed below can help your family
prepare for an emergency.
