EXAMPLES OF VOLUNTEER/INTERN OPPORTUNITIES
ENVIRONMENTAL PUBLIC HEALTH
Volunteers are needed in various operations of the division. Duties may include data entry, filing, typing, copying/scanning and special projects working with staff and/or outside agencies developing and implementing innovative ideas to help improve areas dealing with food safety, occupational health, drinking water, swimming pool safety, lead hazard control and neighborhood nuisance for the residents of Harris County.
We need volunteers with a biology background to assist in maintaining laboratory mosquito colonies for insecticide resistance testing in the field and the laboratory.
PUBLIC HEALTH CLINICS
REFUGEE HEALTH SCREENING PROGRAM
We perform initial health screenings on refugees arriving from
all parts of the world. Volunteer interpreters are needed who are fluent
in English and any of the following languages: Arabic, Burmese,
VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH
WIC - WOMEN, INFANTS, AND
CHILDREN NUTRITION PROGRAM
OFFICE OF PUBLIC INFORMATION
with campaign and health communication activities and the development of
written materials; research resources and identify grant funding for specific
projects; and update and maintain a database of public agencies, private
entities, and community-based organizations. Requires clerical duties
and computers skills with knowledge of Microsoft Professional Office Suite.
