Under the direction of
HCPHES Chief, Dental Health & Prevention (DHP), the Public Health Dentist
delivers diagnostic, preventative, restorative and surgical dental care
services to patients designated as eligible under the HCPHES DHP guidelines;
oversees the work of auxiliary dental staff; oversees prudent operation of
the Dental Clinic(s) to ensure adherence to established policies and
procedures, appropriate maintenance of equipment, appropriate control of
inventory of dental supplies and appropriate adherence to safety and
infection control protocols; communicates effectively with patients, parents
and clinical staff to explain dental services and promote a positive image
of the HCPHES DHP Program; oversees the production of patient records
(electronic and paper) in compliance with program policies and oversees the
production of regular reports of Dental Clinic services. Also performs
community outreach activities (screenings, health fairs, etc.) as directed
by the Chief of DHP.

DENTAL HEALTH SERVICES #13209-P
Main Office – Galleria Area. Chief of Dental Health & Prevention
Services will provide programmatic oversight, fiscal management, technical
expertise, personnel and supervision for the Dental Health & Prevention
Services (DHP) Section. The Chief will collaborate with and provide technical
assistance to the HCPHES Clinic Managers in the management of HCPHES Dental
Clinics. The Chief will also supervise
and provide direct patient care in HCPHES Dental Clinics. The Chief will be
responsible for ensuring appropriate and timely response of the section for
clinical and patient-related issues that arise with the community or as a
result of interaction with partner agencies or providers. The Chief will
serve a leadership role within the DHP Section, and beyond, to provide
guidance and clinical & technical expertise on relevant dental-related
issues. Requires a Dental degree
(e.g., Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or equivalent) from an accredited School of Dentistry. Master’s Degree in
Public Health, or equivalent, is preferred.
Must have at least five (5) years of clinical experience in dental
practice, with preference given to public
health dentistry experience.
Preference given to at least one (1) year of experience in dental
administrative activities, such as experience in implementation of community
dental health initiatives or program design.
Salary range, $80,000 to $120,000 depending upon qualifications. Other requirements apply.
