Tuberculosis Program

During the 1970s, there was a decrease in tuberculosis (TB) cases in the United States, including Texas.  In the mid-1980s, the number of TB cases again started to increase.  In the 1990s, the number of cases of TB in the United States began to stabilize. Trends for TB cases in Harris County have followed these national patterns. However, despite much progress, TB remains an important disease within Harris County.

The Harris County Public Health & Environmental Services (HCPHES) TB Program offers a variety of services aimed at TB prevention and control.  These services are under the direction of a physician who – along with nurses and other TB Program staff – helps carry out the local fight against TB.
