What do SHACs do?

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services’ SHAC—A Guide for Texas School Districts:

A SHAC could have a variety of roles.  At the minimum a SHAC must address the responsibilities outlined in the Texas Education Code.  However, the most effective SHACs develop plans that address all eight components of coordinated school health as listed here:

Health education,

Healthy and safe school environment,

Health services,

Child nutrition,

School counseling,

Staff health promotion, and

Physical education and activity.

SHACs can be assigned the following duties:

Program Planning

Promotion and Advocacy

Fiscal Impact

District and State Agency Interaction
