School Health Leadership Group (SHLG)

The SHLG is a group of recognized school health leaders from each Harris County Independent School District who are invited to participate in tri-annual meetings to discuss local public health issues, state and federal laws and policies related to school health, and best practices.  Opportunities to network with others who work in a similar position at another school district and receiving the latest information about school health issues are often mentioned as two of the best aspects about this group.

The goals for the SHLG are as follows:

1. Build and enhance effective communication and partnerships with school
    district leaders and stakeholders.

2. Provide resources, technical support and networking opportunities for school
district leaders to promote knowledge of coordinated school health issues,
    best practices, policies, and laws.

3. Increase the capacity of district leaders’ skills to create change in the school
environment by modifying determinants related to health risk behaviors.
