Policy Development
The Healthy Places /
Healthy Environment Program participates in the three
core functions of public health—assessment, policy
development, and assurance. These core public health
functions serve as a broad framework for us to describe
the scope of our activities. The “Policy Development”
core function of public health is defined as follows:
Policy Development
includes activities that informs, educates, and empowers
people about environmental health issues. Mobilizes
community partnerships to identify and solve
environmental health problems. And develop
policies/plans that support individual and community
health efforts.
The Environmental
Health Policy Development activities include:
1. Providing
access to safe places for physical activity.
2. Enhancing
environmental changes to increase population-based
physical activity.
3. Supporting
policy and environmental changes that ensure accessible
trails, bike paths and sidewalks.
4. Promoting
community-wide education and awareness of multiple
housing conditions responsible for disease and injury,
especially to children and seniors.
5. Providing
behavior change strategies to provide healthy and safe
housing conditions for children and older adults
residing in the homes.
