Parks &
Physical activity self-report survey
The partners
of the Built Environment/Physical Activity Project, developed a
self-report survey to determine how the built environment
influences physical activity. The purpose of the survey is to
measure adult attitudes, barriers, and facilitators regarding
park utilization. Self-report surveys are administered in the
three communities: Houston East End, Barrett Station &
Cloverleaf Community.
The
self-report survey consists of four sections:
1. Use of the
targeted park & trails
2. Other
parks and trails within the community
3. Physical
Activity and exercise habits
4. Your
health.
The
self-report survey was translated into Spanish; a back
translation into English was completed as recommended by the
scientific literature. Pilot tests of both English and Spanish
versions were conducted among community members. A pilot test
protocol was developed in order to maintain consistency
throughout the process. Self-report surveys are to be conducted
among adults residents of the three communities. The Built
Environment/Physical Activity Project Coordinator with student
interns and community health workers are identifying sites
within the communities to administer the survey.
